Food for Thought (2-4-09)

Use these questions on your own or with a friend to help you apply Wednesday night’s message to your life.

Tonight Mike talked about what we are all about here at the Journey.

Mike’s Points

Because of Christ’s Love for us we will:

  • Love God
  • Love Each Other
  • Love the World

Discussion Questions

What are some ways that you honor God?

Tonight Mike talked about how everyone worships something.  Is there something in your life that you are worshipping besides God?

Mike stated that worship is honoring God with our lives.  What are some ways that you can pratically start growing in your faith and honoring God with your life?

One quesiton asked tonight is would you take a bullet for the person next to you? Think about that for a second and what that would mean.

What is one way that you can help bring people into the youth group and intentionally meet them? What is one way that you can serve?

Who is someone that you can think of that you need to start being intentional with/looking for opportunities to evangelize? On a sidenote remember that we have an outreach night Saturday Feb. 28th.

What are some ways that you can meet the needs of those who are hurting around us?

Pray.

Use these questions on your own or with a friend to help you apply Wednesday night’s message to your life.

Scripture: Psalm 51 & 2 Samuel 11-22

The story of David this week begins with him being in the wrong place.  He continually makes mistakes that lead him closer and closer to giving into temptation until he falls into sexual sin.  Eventually David is confronted about his sins by Nathan.

Mike’s Points

When we sin we must recognize what we have done

Go to God

Move on

We need to receive God’s forgiveness

We need to live in the present (not the past or future)

Questions

-How many times have you tried to cover up dumb things that you have done? (i.e. pointing at brother when you clear broke mom’s favorite dishware)

-Did you feel guilty for doing this afterward?

-One thing that Mike talked about tonight is that we are not to feel guilty but we are to own up and move on. What are some ways you can help remind yourself to move on and receive God’s forgiveness?

-Think back to some of the recent decisions you have made. Did you choose your way (which may have been easier to do) or God’s (which is always best)?

-What are some things that you need to bring before God?  Be specific, just as David was specific with God.

-Take some time to take these things before God.  Be honest with Him and have a repentant heart.  (repent = changing directions)

Thank God

Winter Camp is Full

Winter Camp @ Pondo is now full.  If you’re signed up watch your mailbox at home for an info sheet headed your way late this week.

Food for Thought (1-14-09)

Use these questions on your own or with a friend to help you apply Wednesday night’s message to your life.

Scripture: Psalm 3 & 2 Samuel 15:1-14

David’s son, Absalom, “stole the hearts of the men of Israel.” Their loyalties had switched from David to Absalom and David was forced to flee. He found himself without hope.

Ben’s Points:
God gives us hope
God sustains us
God brings deliverance
We must ask for help
We must have faith

- When was a time where you felt like you had no hope?
- What do you feel like the “foes” in your life are that you need hope for?
- What are three practical ways you can put your hope in God instead of in your tough circumstances?
- What do you think it means for God to sustain us?
- What is something you need to be delivered from? How do you think God will deliver you from it?
- Are you struggling with trusting God for something specific? How can you have stronger faith in this?

Winter Camp

Winter Camp is now full, but talk to Mike ASAP if you’d still like to go. Pondo should be able to squeeze a little more in. Should be a great weekend!

Food for Thought (11-19-08)

What are some benefits of having wisdom?

Mike stated that if you reject something you are accepting something else.  When we reject wisdom we accept foolishness.  Who are some wise people you can walk with so that you do not become foolish?

The first alternative to wisdom Mike gave tonight is being Naive.  Being Naive is more like being clueless, the person lacks experience.  What are some things was are naive (clueless) about? (ex. credit cards)

The second alternative is being a fool.  Being a fool is being careless, you know right from wrong but you do not change.  What are some foolish experiences you have had (based on the definition)?  Is there anything you are still being foolish about?

The third and final alternative is being a mocker.  A mocker is someone who is critical, they want nothing to do with it.  They think they have it all together and everyone else is wrong.  Why are we told not to correct a mocker? (Hint: Proverbs 9:7-9)  What can you do?

Mike mentioned that wisdom is something that must be searched out.  How are you searching for wisdom?  How can you search for wisdom?

Proverbs is a book chalk full of wisdom.  Solomon wisdom was not just in the words but also in the lay out of the book.  The book is 31 chapters long; perfect for one chapter a day.  Take this next month and read through the book of Proverbs; one chapter a day.
